Knitting Single-Row Striped Scarves
A Pattern by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels
This simple scarf knitting pattern teaches you how to make Single-Row Striped Scarves in three sizes.
Knit single-row color-striped scarves with this knitting pattern. Often, striped scarves have a lot of tails to weave in. This design leaves only four tails, two at each end, which you will need to weave into the fabric. To save time, you can tie together the tails at either end, without compromising the beauty of your finished object.
This PDF knitting pattern allows you to make scarves in three sizes: extra-wide, standard, and narrow. Choose the scarf width you prefer, then knit until you have reached your desired length. Most standard scarves are six feet long, but you can customize the length to fit your needs.
How these Single-Row Striped Scarves are Made
These scarves are knit on circular needles, allowing you to knit single-color rows with fewer loose ends.
You can substitute almost any worsted weight yarn in this pattern successfully; just check your gauge before you start. I’ve found that Malabrigo Rios, a merino wool yarn, makes an excellent substitute yarn for this pattern.
This is a beginner to intermediate knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of casting on, making knit stitches, turning your work, and binding off. You can weave in your loose ends or tie them into your work to finish your project.
- Extra-Wide size measures 9 inches by 6 feet (or your desired length).
- Standard size measures 7 inches by 6 feet (or your desired length).
- Narrow size measures 5 inches by 6 feet (or your desired length).
If you use the materials suggested in this pattern, your final product will be machine washable. To keep your scarves looking their best, hand wash or machine wash separately on delicate cycle in cold water. You may tumble dry on low heat, but laying flat to dry is recommended.
