About PurlsAndPixels

PurlsAndPixels is a place where I share my knitting, crochet, and craft ideas. My shop is filled with deluxe knitting and crochet patterns in multiple sizes, designed and written by me, Liz Chandler.

Why “PurlsAndPixels”?

In digital photography, a “pixel” is a tiny square that when combined with groups of other pixels creates a complete picture. In knitting, combining groups of stitches, like purls, creates a complete picture as well. I see both purls and pixels as methods of stacking little squares to create art, so “PurlsAndPixels” was born.

Bright colors, cheerful themes, and minimalism inspire my designs. I share my fiber designs as downloadable knitting patterns and crochet patterns. I always strive to write clear, easy to follow instructions. My blog also helps you to make your own crafts. I have lots of free articles showing you how to knit, crochet, and make all kinds of other crafts.

A little about me, Liz Chandler…

From the humble beginnings of tangled yarn to becoming a knitting teacher, I’ve woven my way through life’s stitches. Colorado’s majestic mountains and abundant wildlife have inspired my craft, while gardening and homesteading keep me grounded.

Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels, Colorado USA.

I was raised in a tiny town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. A rowdy little girl, my grandmother decided to teach me to crochet and knit to help burn off some of my bouncy energy. I adored working with yarn and continued knitting and crocheting as I grew up. I loved the ability to create something from almost nothing.

Hermit crab hat handmade crochet ear flap hat by PurlsAndPixels

During school, I took a break from crafting. When my son was born prematurely and we were confined to the house, I picked up a my yarn again. I started with a silly animal hat, which was so much fun I couldn’t stop. When people asked to have a hermit crab hat of their own, I opened my Etsy store. Then, after many successful sales to happy customers on both Etsy and Amazon Handmade, I created my own website.

I soon discovered that teaching others how to make things was even more fulfilling than crocheting hats myself. Now, I spend most of my creative time writing knitting and DIY guides to share with you. Take a peek inside my knitting garden and join me in making my favorite DIY crafts. I hope you find something you love!

A little about my lessons and guides…

Learn to knit single-row striped scarves with two colors of yarn in this knitting pattern by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels.

Since everyone learns a bit differently, I’ve tried to make knitting lessons in lots of different formats. You can read the free tutorials, all outlined at my Learn to Knit Index. For visual learners, a YouTube video is included with each lesson. And, if you prefer to have your knitting lessons and patterns in print, you can order my comprehensive knitting guide, pattern books, and your own knitting journal through the links in my PurlsAndPixels Shop.

A little about my store…

Liz Chandler's Knitting Guide: Learn to Knit with Practical Patterns.

Most of the items in my online store are patterns that you download and print from your home. When you purchase a knitting pattern, you’ll be directed to download a digital PDF file. Then you can save it, print it, and also read it on your phone, tablet, or computer.

You can also purchase my knitting books and journals through links in my store. These glossy, hardcover books are sold exclusively on Amazon.com. My shop can help you select the perfect knitting book or journal for you.
