Welcome to PurlsAndPixels.com! Learn to knit, explore new techniques, or try a practical DIY project designed by me, Liz Chandler. If you are here to start something new or just peek at what the chickens are up to in my garden, I hope you find something that makes you smile.
Why “PurlsAndPixels”?
In digital photography, a “pixel” is a tiny square that helps form an image when combined with others. In knitting, it is stitches (like purls) that do the same. I see both as ways to stack little squares into something beautiful. So, “PurlsAndPixels” was born (part fiber, part tech, and all heart).

About Me, Liz Chandler
I was raised in a tiny town tucked into the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where creativity had to be practical. My grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a kid to help channel all my extra energy. Years later, I taught myself to knit using that crochet foundation (and a whole lot of trial and error with early online tutorials). Yarn quickly became one of my favorite tools for learning, creating, and finding calm.
After finishing law school and starting a more traditional career path, my son arrived early and made a dramatic entrance into the world (he is thriving now, thankfully!). Life changed quickly, and I found myself drawn back to yarn. I picked up my crochet hook and stitched up a silly hermit crab hat (just for fun). When others wanted one too, I opened an Etsy shop. That shop grew into a successful handmade business, then expanded to Amazon Handmade, and eventually led me to launch PurlsAndPixels.com.
Along the way, I discovered that what I love most is teaching. I enjoy helping others gain confidence in their creativity through patterns, books, and tutorials that are easy to follow and fun to use. Today, I focus on creating digital patterns, print resources, and practical guides for knitters and crafters of all levels.
A Bit About My Lessons and Books
Everyone learns a little differently, so I try to offer a variety of guides:
- โ๏ธ Free tutorials with written and video lessons at my Learn to Knit Index.
- ๐ป Downloadable PDF knitting patterns to print at home or use on your device right away.
- ๐ Print books and journals for knitters who like something to hold in their hands.
My knitting lessons assume no prior knitting knowledge. You will learn how to choose supplies, fix mistakes, finish projects, and even customize patterns.
