Simple Knit Leg Warmers

Simple Knit Leg Warmers

A Design from Liz @PurlsAndPixels

I’ve been aching to make myself a pair of classic leg warmers for quite some time now. Lots of other projects put this little gem on the back burner for a while. Knitting for other people seems to be so much easier than knitting for yourself. But, I’ve finally finished, and I’ll share my pattern with you in my shop and on Etsy.

How I Designed this Pattern

I wanted to make myself a pair of cozy legwarmers to wear with my leggings because, although they are super comfy for my busy mommy self, leggings can get chilly on cold days. My leg warmers needed to be long enough to stretch from the top of my calf and be pulled over my heel when I wore them around the house to keep my chilly feet cozy. But, I didn’t want them to be so bulky that I couldn’t wear them under boots.

Leg warmer knitting pattern, designed by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixelsWhen I think of leg warmers, I think of two things: ballet and the 1980s. I designed my leg warmers with this in mind. I chose a basic stockinette knitting stitch to keep the leg warmers simple and not too busy. For yarn, I choose Caron Simply Soft in vibrant, solid colors because the cheerful minimalist look reminds me of ballerinas and ’80’s aerobics outfits. These would also be adorable if they were made in a variegated or self-striping yarn.

After I made my pair of simple knit leg warmers in Robin’s Egg Blue, I decided to make a pair in every size. I’ve written and posted the knitting pattern for these in both my store on this website, and on Etsy, so you can make leg warmers for everyone you love, too.
