Description
Pink Flamingo Hat
A Pattern by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels
Knit this flamingo hat in Fair Isle style. This hat is knit from the bottom, up. Use your favorite technique to apply the knitting chart to this simple, slightly slouchy beanie hat. I used the “stranding” method, by which you carry the second (and third) colors behind the live stitches, twisting them in to anchor the “floats” as you work.
This pink flamingo hat knitting pattern includes three colors, instead of the typical two color pattern. To make this a more traditional “Fair Isle” pattern, use only pink to knit the flamingos and make the beaks pink instead of orange.
This hat will be just slightly slouchy, depending on the wearer’s head size. Wear it as a simple beanie or add a pom-pom in pink, blue, or both colors to add a bit more excitement.
How this Flamingo Hat is Made
Materials
You will make this hat with Caron Simply Soft Yarn, circular, and double point needles. Or, substitute any brand of worsted weight yarn in any color. Gauge is important for this hat, so make sure you check it before you start, especially when substituting yarns. And remember to keep the floats on your flamingo design moderately loose so that your flamingos stretch like the rest of the knit.
Skills
This is an experienced knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of knitting in the round, stranded knitting, and double point needles.
Size Notes
– Adult size fits most men, women, and older teens or 21’’ – 26’’ head circumference)
– Child size fits most children 2 – 14 years of age or 19’’ – 21’’ head circumference
