Description
Ribbed Single-Row Striped Scarves
A Knitting Pattern by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels
Knit eye-catching, colorful scarves with this easy PDF pattern for Single-Row Striped Ribbed Scarves. Using just knit and purl stitches, youโll create soft ribbing with clean, bold stripes. This pattern is perfect for anyone who wants a quick, satisfying knit with a polished look.
Unlike most striped scarf patterns, this one wonโt leave you with a mess of yarn tails. Youโll only have four to deal with (two at each end). In a hurry? Tie the loose ends off instead of weaving them in. It still looks tidy and saves time.
Thereโs a simple trick that keeps your yarn intact: knit back and forth on circular needles and slide your stitches after every other row. That way, you never need to cut your yarn between color changes. No tangles, no hassle.
The PDF includes instructions for two widths: standard and extra-wide. Knit your scarf to any length you like. Six feet is a classic, but this pattern lets you customize it easily.

How these Single-Row Striped Scarves are Made
These scarves are knit on circular needles, allowing you to knit single-color rows with fewer loose ends. You’ll work in a knit, purl rib pattern, switching colors after every row.
Materials
You will make these striped scarves with your two favorite colors of Caron Simply Soft Yarn, and circular needles.
You can substitute almost any worsted weight yarn in this pattern successfully; just check your gauge before you start. I’ve found that Malabrigo Rios, a merino wool yarn, makes an excellent substitute yarn for this pattern.
Skills
This is an easy knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of the long-tail cast on,ย knit stitches,ย purl stitches, turning your work, binding off in a pattern of knits and purls, and weaving in loose ends on flat knits. If you are not familiar with these skills, find quick, free lessons in myย Learn to Knit Guide.
Care
If you use the materials called for in the pattern, your final product will be machine washable. To keep your scarf looking its best, hand wash or machine wash separately on delicate cycle in cold water. You may tumble dry on low heat or lay flat to dry.
