Santa Hats & Gloves

A PATTERN BY LIZ CHANDLER @PURLSANDPIXELS

Baby Santa Hat knitting pattern from Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels

This Santa Hat knitting pattern teaches you how to make Christmas holiday hats in two sizes. You’ll also receive patterns for Santa-inspired fingerless gloves in three sizes.

Make your own Santa hat for the Christmas holiday with this knitting pattern. Begin by making the white, ribbed brim. Adding a long tube of red stockinette stitch (made with simple knit stitches) will allow your hat to slouch. Then, you will begin slowly decreasing the top of the hat until it comes to a closing point.

When you are finished knitting, you will add a pom-pom at the top of the hat. Make your own with white yarn. Or, add premade pom-pom; I love this hat with a topper of white faux fur. This hat is designed with Caron Simply Soft yarn, but you can substitute almost any brand of worsted-weight yarn.

Then, make a matching set of gloves. Fingerless mitts let you stay cozy for the holiday, while still being able to use your fingers for those small tasks.

This PDF knitting pattern walks you through making a hat with clear, row by row instructions for one-size-fits-most and baby size hats and one-size-fits-most, little kid, and baby size gloves.

How these Santa Hats and Gloves are Made

These hats and gloves are worked in the round from the bottom up.

This pattern can be knit in the round in three different ways. Instructions are included for double point needles, the magic loop, and shorter circular needles. Pick your favorite method to knit in the round, then follow the instructions that match your chosen needles.

Materials

Santa Hats and Gloves in all sizes knitting pattern from Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixelsYou will make these hats and gloves with the White and Red colorways from Caron Simply Soft Yarn, and circular needles. You will need to make a pom-pom with the white yarn or purchase a pre-made pom-pom. I love this Santa hat with white fur pom-poms (link to Amazon Associates).

You can substitute almost any worsted weight yarn in this pattern successfully; just check your gauge before you start. I’ve found that Malabrigo Rios, a merino wool yarn, makes an excellent substitute yarn for this pattern.

Skills

This is a beginner to intermediate knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of knitting in the roundknit stitchespurl stitchesswitching needle sizes, and decreases. You will also need to know how to make a pom-pom or attach a pre-made pom-pom.
