How a Heart Face Scrubby is Made

This heart face scrubby is knit flat using simple stitches and a touch of texture magic. You will work in stockinette stitch – knitting one row, then purling the next – with purl stitches placed just right to form a heart on the front of the cloth. There are no increases, decreases, or tricky shaping involved. This beginner-friendly knitting pattern lets you practice stitch placement while creating a reusable cotton cloth that is perfect as a knit washcloth or eco-friendly makeup remover. Materials

I designed the Heart Face Scrubby using Lily Sugar ‘n Cream 100% cotton yarn, but you can use any worsted weight cotton yarn you like. One standard 95-yard (2 ounce) skein will make about ten scrubbies. Each one uses approximately 9.5 yards (0.2 ounces), though the final weight may vary slightly depending on your yarn brand and tension. Stick with cotton to keep it absorbent, reusable, and machine washable.

Skills

This is an easy knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of casting on, turning your work, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, binding off, and weaving in loose ends. It may also help to review the visual difference between knits and purls.

Care

If you use the materials suggested in this pattern, your final product will be machine washable. If they get stained, a little OxyClean in the wash really helps to get them clean of makeup residue. Then, they’re ready to use again.
