Description

Knitting Subtle Cable Mittens

A Pattern by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixels

These cable knit mittens are more subtle than most; the cable knitting pattern is inlaid into the glove and isn’t bordered with purls like many cable patterns. This simple pattern is an excellent introduction to cable knitting, and you’ll learn to make a simple twisted cable pattern on the back of each glove.

Make these mittens in solid colors or mix it up with variegated yarn for a vibrant look. This easy to follow knitting pattern walks you through how to make these mittens, with row by row written steps. This design comes with instructions for woman, child, toddler, and baby sizes.

How these Subtle Cable Knit Mittens are Made

Subtle Cable Knit Mittens, designed by Liz Chandler @PurlsAndPixelsMaterials

You will make this pair of mittens with Caron Simply Soft Yarn and Double Point Needles. Or, substitute any brand of worsted weight yarn in any color. Just be sure to check your gauge when substituting yarns.

These mittens are made one at a time, and worked from the bottom up. They’re double-thick, so you’ll hold two strands of yarn together while you make these mittens.

If you are familiar with the magic loop knitting method, you can work these mittens on long circular needles instead of using DPNs.

Skills

This is an intermediate knitting skill level pattern that requires a general understanding of knitting in the round, double point needles, increases, and decreases. This is an introduction to cable knitting as well. There is no cable chart in the instructions, as I find it confuses things when simple written instructions are clear. You will need a cable needle and you’ll learn to slip stitches onto it to create a twisted cable effect on your gloves.
